Mozambique: mass power cuts

For approximately two weeks, certain cities of Mozambique including Maputo/ Matola, Gaza, Inhambane and some provinces south of Mozambique, will suffer mass power cuts. The Substation located in Matola, where the Electricity of Mozambique (EDM) will be replacing transformers of 60 MVA’s for 250 MVA’s;  will be required to perform  a series of tests. The schedule plan of the testing period will begin on April 26 and should terminate within a two week period.  The transformers now being replaced had over 40 years of operation time behind them and can no longer stand the growing consumer demand. Gil Massinga, (Director of the Division of transport  South of EDM), said that the company contracted for this task are making every effort to try reduce the number of cuts but at the same time have appealed to customers/ public to please bare with them during this and thank you for the understanding.
