Mozambique: immigration in 3 steps (part III)

The Work Visa (WV) The Work Visa is obtained from a Mozambican Consulate, and it often requires the presence of the applicant as well as supporting documentation. The WV will allow the holder of a valid WP to travel to Mozambique and apply for a Residence Permit. It is valid for a single entry and 30 days. Accompanying dependents will obtain a Residence Visa. A Business Visa cannot be converted into a WV in country. The Residence Permit (DIRE) Entering the country on a WV is a pre-condition to apply for the DIRE at the Immigration Dept. in Mozambique. Applicants need to be present for taking of biometric data. Once the application is filed, the worker is legally in the country. While waiting for the DIRE, worker and family can obtain Exit&Entry Permits to travel out of the country. The DIRE is issued in approx. 6 weeks, is valid for a year and can be renewed for equal periods. Warning: Rules and practise may change without previous notice. The issuance of a DIRE may take several months. The validity of a Business Visa and the length of stay in the country may vary among the consulates. Non-compliance with these steps may result in fines for the company and the need to have the worker leave the country and re-start the process. Contact us for additional info at [email protected].
